Not only is Stewart an executive producer but he was also the umpire
in the pre-taped national anthem piece that opened the show. (I didn't
recognize him initially with the beard.)

Surprisingly, yes - Jon Stewart was listed as an EP (his was the third or
fourth EP credit), although Busboy doesn't get a vanity card. It's possible
Stewart is an EP-in-name-only - Colbert's way of thanking Stewart for his CC
run.

most first shows, I think this one is atypical in terms of the many timing
issues you identify. They are not going to usually tape 2 hours, and I doubt
(hope) they do not routinely edit the interviews so much (or at all). Dave was
kind of obsessed with not editing or re-doing things as much as possible;
Colbert is much more used to editing, but I agree that approach is not
sustainable, and also Dave is right - it takes away from the immediacy of the
finished product. Part of this is also they are packing in too many A-list
guests on some of these early shows. That too should calm down. If Dave had
someone like Jeb on, he would probably have been the only paneled guest - and
indeed the Clooney segment was probably the weakest, and would have been better
as a shorter comedy bit than an interview about nothing. That would have given
them more time for Jeb. I thought Colbert did some good stuff with Jeb, but I
would have liked to see him with more time (I have not looked at the extended
interview online).
Will they keep up with the self-announcing? I liked it, but if they do they can
not keep making a joke about it.
I thought the studio looked fantastic, the music was fantastic (I kind of liked
that it looked messy). And I just loved Colbert - I like the persona he used,
still nerdy, still self-depreciatingly narcissistic, still way smart in a
non-threatening way. Unless I just fall much more in love with the new TDS than
I suspect I will, this will be my #1 priority talk show every night.

Was Jon Stewart listed as a producer of the show? Is he a producer of TDS (I
know he is of The Nightly Show) - would that make Stewart as a producer of two
competing shows on (at least on the East Coast) at the same time?

Quick observations, with the usual provisions about it being the first show,

I'll have to get used to Stephen imitating Craig K. with the introductions.
I think the ending musical number didn't work from a visual perspective. That
it was apparently the second take (per NYT -
www.nytimes.com/2015/09/09/arts/television/stephen-colbert-late-show.html)doesn't
 surprise me.
Taping for two hours and cutting for broadcast (again, per the NYT) is not
sustainable. Talk to whomever was line producing SCG if you need extra time.
They could tape an episode in 50 minutes.
The interviews may be the part of the show that changes the most. Maybe it was
the editing (at least Jeb!s was cut for time), or the fact that I have to
re-learn Colbert's interview POV (and maybe he still is), but they fell short.
He has the intellect to sustain a longer-form conversation, but they have to
figure out

I dig the opening credits, but the theme could use some more oomph. Given the
band's instrumentation, I'm not sure why The Late Show theme now resembles the
elevator music of most of Seth's Late Night.

I will watch on the regular, but with three shows competing for my eyes during
the 11:30 half-hour, it probably won't be same day.
I really want him to get closer to the fellow that's been dropping all kinds of
content this summer. I think he needs to relax a bit to get there. And the
show will be funnier as a result.

So yeah, I suppose his summer teases spoiled me for the fall premiere.

not quite as perfect as the first "Cobert Report" episode, but for my money jam
packed with fabulousness.
