Extending comments on a related thread, I really think the opening segment would be much stronger if they put Baptiste back in the box, took the silly mouth keyboards away from him and had him play the piano or organ or some other standing keyboard. It would sound a lot better, and get away from the silly opening dance and physical exchanges he has with Stephen. I think it is unintentional, but the visual looks like the worst of those "My Black Friend" bits Colbert used to do, only serious. (OTOH, if it is intentional, and he is making a third level shit meta-critique of white liberalism, then I love it). As Johnny did with Doc and Dave with Paul, I think Colbert would benefit from more of a undertone of teasing or making fun of his bandleader, which would lead into more natural (or at least less painful) exchanges between them. I am very happy he brought back (and looks like will periodically be bringing back) those taped "Better Know A..." style videos. I wish he has been more cruel to the Myers Briggs woman - the MBTI is a bullshit personality test that has little credibility within academic psychology, but which has been given an undeserved second life by Facebook and conservative Evangelical Christians. -- -- TV or Not TV ....
