It feels to me that CBS is trying to boost its international reach through the
streaming service.  Trek (like Doctor Who) will play well outside of the US.

There might have been the thinking that better the next Trek go to the CBS
streaming service rather than Hulu, Netflix, etc.  But even before any of these
streaming services dived into original programming, they had libraries that
could really draw interest.  CBSAA doesn't, as far as I can tell.
It just doesn't seem that the service is ready for prime time, and I can't see
a single series (with a legacy, sure) making it so.  (Yeah, I know.)

However, as a Trekkie, I'm much more concerned about the lack of details on the
production, given that it is supposed to premiere in roughly 14 months.  When
TNG was announced in October 1986, the writing and producing staff was ready
and announced within days.  This new production doesn't have a writer yet?  I'm
guessing that if a writer isn't announced by the end of this year that the new
Trek series won't be ready by January 2017.

Subject: [TV orNotTV] Ad-free option for CBSAA?

Holy living [expletive].  That's all I can say.

No other broadcast network charges for their basic streaming service. Most will
unlock their libraries and live streams (ad supported, of course) with a
CableCo login, including CBSAA stablemate Showtime Anytime.  And then there's
Hulu.

So I'll ask again...why in [expletive]'s sake would anyone pay $6/mo to only
access CBS programming? And why in hell would Moonves think anyone would pay
MORE to remove a handful of ads?

Arrrrgh.
