Social media homogenization is the name of the game. You can almost set a watch to the rate at which social media networks scramble to be like one another. Twitter could be working on things that matter (like adding tools to ban cybertrolls), but the cosmetic crap is easier. Oh yeah, Twitter scaled back on the number of real people in its Support division who work to curb trolling, flaming, spamming, etc., so expect things to get worse... again.
