The nationally-broadcast talk show host, 79, will retire after the 2016
elections and wrap 37 years on the air at only one station--DC NPR station
WAMU--in the same midday time slot (she started at AMU as a volunteer in
1973 and her daily show went national in the mid-90s). For a good portion
of the run, she persevered despite spasmodic dysphonia, a voice disorder
that sometimes made her hard to listen to by some people:

WAMU and NPR say that discussions on Rehm's replacement are still up in the
air (although "All Things Considered" co-host Melissa Block has frequently
filled in) and the over 150 stations carrying the program can choose from
NPR Tom Ashbrook's WBUR Boston show "On Point," which also airs live from
10 a.m. to noon ET.
