I've searched online for the clip, but no luck. Falk dropped by between takes -- possibly had a liquid lunch -- and showed up, chewed-up cigar, rain coat, and all (Johnny was smoking on set, too). The crowd went nuts. And you could tell from his humble reaction that he missed the instant response of live theater. He went on to talk about and thank, by name, the writers and directors of the recent episodes he'd been working on. He then left so Lawrence Welk could come on, but at the close of the show, Carson read a note written by Falk because he'd forgotten to thank additional people... and because he wanted to know where Johnny bought his sportcoat.
