I don't have the link at my fingertips, but here's what appears to have gone down.
When Street went to only half-hour episodes, that limited the live-action section to the first segment. So the idea of a story that winds through the entire show is gone: it has to be wrapped up in that first segment.* That meant much less time for the actors, and Workshop told the actors as such. McCrath incorrectly interpreted it as being let go (though I don't believe he's been on any segments so far this year), he opened his mouth, and now we're here. * This is what I think the biggest flaw is with the 30-minute format: there's no time for longer stories (think Mr Hooper's death, or their version of Gift Of The Magi that *always* brings me to tears. That puts more pressure on the Muppet-only segments (SuperGrover 2.0, Elmo The Musical, etc). And it seems that the addiction to always having an Elmo segment makes it worse.
