David Hartman did "GMA" for years and he wasn't a news guy either, but when ABC News took over the show, they insisted that he have a equal co-host- in that case Joan Lunden, and it didn't shock too many people when Roone Arledge got Charles Gibson to replace David as co-host with Joan.
