I'm sure it is great to be Matt Damon or George Clooney, but if I were an
actor I would be maybe more inclined to have the career of someone like
Fritz Weaver. Perhaps only fetishist NY cabbies would know your name, but I
am sure he was financially comfortable, and must have had the respect of
all of his peers. And, as Dustin Hoffman memorably says in *Tootise*,
Weaver excelled at fulfilling the first mission of all actors - which was
that he was a working actor.
I looked at his IMBD listing that Bob provided and was overwhelmed. Dude
was in a ton of theatrical films, and some landmark TV movies; but he was
basically a reparatory member of serial dramatic television from the 1960s
well into the 1990s (he was in three Law and Orders). I have listed below
his credits for TV shows from the 1960s through 1980s (I'm sure there are
some duplications, omissions and misclassifications here, IMDB is not easy
to work with and I did not have time for a close proofing). There are 90
credits listed here, from the obscure and unsuccessful to the meat and
potatoes of pre-cable TC dramas (and I did check - could not find a
Columbo, though it seems like he should have played the stodgy uncle or
financial advisor to one of the victims).
Well done Fritz Weaver, and thank-you.
