I have not read much about this. I just watched it. The show is by far the best of any of the recent tv musicals, but I thought the production was oddly uneven. Jennifer Hudson in particular was fabulous, but there were several places where it sounded as if they were lip syncing - except, even then you could in places here the kind of heavy breathing that suggested it was live actors dancing and running and singing. I read they had a sweetener track playing underneath all the songs that they could turn up in case of helicopters but, really, WTF? Why are they staging it outside? I get that they dont want to just televise a broadway stage show, but less of that "opening up" is more - I want to have a little of the feel of watching a musical on stage. And if they cant have live singing then no point in doing it at all.
In other respects as well the production kind of looked like they needed another week of rehearsal.Hairspray is a much better show than Greace, but I think that production was better. -- Sent from Gmail Mobile -- -- TV or Not TV ....
