Eating my St. Patrick's Day lunch of corned beef and cabbage and red potatoes, the restaurant's Sirius classic rock channel started playing ELO's "Fire on High." Sitting at a nearby table, a couple of young teens liked the song and asked what it was. Their grandfather (maybe great-grandfather) said he had heard it before but didn't know it. I named the song and said CBS Sports used to use it for their theme song. He remembered that was where he heard it before.
It is a rockin' song. I'm an ELO fan, though. Someone else used Emerson, Lake & Palmer's "Fanfare for the Common Man," I can't remember which sports show that was. What other rock songs have been used a regular theme songs? I don't mean one-offs, like "The Sopranos" used to do. The CSI franchise uses Who songs. "the Apprentice" uses "Money." Creedence Clearwater Revival has a couple of songs that seem like good candidates for TV show theme songs. -- -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
