Seacrest will never be in danger of upstaging any guest or cohost, or even an audience member, because his best trait is to be innocuous. He makes Carson Daly seem charismatic. It isn't that people like him; it is that he is incapable of getting in the way of people they do like. This reminds me of the episode of The Larry Sanders Show when they needed a guest host, and whenever anybody would suggest a potential name, Artie would reply, curtly, "threatens Larry." They ultimately settle on Pat Sajak at the least threatening possibility, but if that show were set in the present day, Seacrest would be a better punchline. -- Kevin M.
