Or to establish that Carson was about ready to enter the crowd to play Stump the Band.
What gets me today is that 15-second segment of Colbert that usually allows for two breaks and comes in the show order befor the last guest or the musical performance where they promo who's going to be on the next night/week. Usually, the director doesn't shoot the audience during that spot, because those graphics are either projected on the wall of the Ed or the ceiling, but they still have the audience clapping and cheering all through that segment even though we don't see them. Shouldn't the crowd be listening to the band? This isn't Coachella and it isn't some punk band playing.
