No surprise here, but WGN America, facing a new owner and a possible change of direction, has canned "Underground," the two-season drama series about the Underground Railroad that was the last remaining original scripted series on the channel, after two seasons, with the usual butt-kissing but an unwillingness to say that it's because the new management at Sinclair isn't interested in anything about African-Americans:
http://www.thewrap.com/underground-canceled-after-two-seasons-on-wgn-america/ For their part, producer Sony says it will shop the series to other possible buyers. Meanwhile, WGNA has indicated that if they are going to be investing in original series in the future, it will probably be reality shows, with the strong possibility that if Sinclair takes over in the fourth quarter of this year as planned, it could be possible that by this time next year the channel that WGNA is occupying could be a right-wing news channel with Bill O'Reilly back on the air at 8 weeknights as if nothing at Fox News had happened. And sorry, Chicago expats--no Cubs, no Tom Skilling, no Bozo. (And considering that Skilling is a firm climate-change believer, Sinclair could get rid of him when they take over at WGN in Chicago for, say, noted climate-change denier and former Chicago weatherman John Coleman, although that would be risking a LOT of bad publicity.) -- -- TV or Not TV ....
