Not really - the NFL still sucks in so many ways. But, as Keith Olbermann
tweeted this morning, for a mixture of reasons of principle and commercial
self-interest, the owners, league officials, TV announcers and players have
come together to effective join the Resistance against Trumpism. I suspect
much of the motivation for Trump's ugly meltdown in Alabama Friday night
was his primitive instinct for self-preservation, as he senses that Mueller
is closing in on the Russia-Scandal. But it also illustrated his
fundamental white supremacy.

I got up at 6:30 to watch the game in London, and was a little surprised to
see Jacquars owner Shahid Khan (one of I think six NFL owners to each
donate $1 Million to Trump's Innuaguartion Committee, which has now been
shown to be an easy way for rich guys to give Trump unregulated money - and
which we may find ultimately to be used for his legal defense fund)
standing arm in arm with his players in defiance and opposition to Trump.
It looks like we can expect a lot more of that in the games throughout the
day.

I watch the Fox pregame show - I was impressed with the comments from all
of them (even the hyper-conservative Bradshaw), and I was actually moved
and inspired by Howie Long's comments - who said in his ram rod way that
while he would never not stand for the anthem, he understands why so many
are, and he recognized that as a white father of three sons, he never had
to face the horrifying fears that black fathers face. His comments not
suprising at all, since one of his sons have been the most vocal and
supportive of white players on the field during previous protests.

Trump has not really made the NFL great again, but his call this morning
for people to boycott the NFL until they fire players who refuse to stand
for the anthem has managed to remove the stigma and deep shame I have felt
for several years for continuing to watch NFL games. I can now sit on my
fat ass eating chips and feel like watching the NFL is part of my social
justice and fascist Resistance commitments. Thanks Donald Trump #MNFLGA
