Dan Harmon has said frequently in interviews and on his podcast what a
network executive once told him: His shows will never be in the top 10 of
the overall ratings, but it doesn’t matter because even if the show is 80th
in the ratings,  the fans of the show consider it their absolute favorite
show, and that loyalty translates to more dollars in the long term.
