I can't answer cable box questions (although you could test this later by setting it to record a late night show, then unplug the box before bed, plug it in the following morning and see if it "recovers" the show via IP somehow), but there has even been coverage of the fires in the UK. The BBC had a report with a CBS reporter this morning detailing what's been going on. And it has made the evening news in brief prior to this.
