NFL ratings continue to fall (Down over last year in 5 of first 6 weeks). Wall Street has revised earning projections sharply downward for the networks (5% for CBS).
https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/18/wall-street-is-befuddled-over-plunging-nfl-ratings.html Hard to credit DJT and his attempt to hijack the protest over police violence, since ratings were down 12% last year. Below are theories mentioned in the WSJ piece. My guesses are 1) The NFL is horrible, and the way they handle violence towards women and player safety is catching up with them and 2) young people, as we here no, just don't have the same tv habits as older generations. They are less likely to spend 6 (or 9) hours in a Sunday parked on their couch watching football. My late 20s daughter is into football, but she follows in Sunday's the scores in her phone supplemented by near-real time highlights. "Theories, theories, and theories: Chris Simms of NBC Sports Network says the league has made it too easy for young fans to stream condensed versions of games. Mike Florio at Pro Football Talk claims the NFL focused too much on growing the sport outside the U.S. USA Today noted that significant injuries (Aaron Rodgers, J.J. Watt, Odell Beckham, Julian Edelman) are probably not helping ratings. Forbes meanwhile attributes some of the softness in viewership to the National Anthem protests. We note that in Week 6, most NFL broadcasts did not show the anthem, instead moving to commercial breaks." -- Sent from Gmail Mobile -- -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
