The article from Reuters points out that any decision from the Justice
Department on the Disney purchase of the selected Fox assets would have to
wait until the Time Warner-AT&T merger is approved. Right now, either Time
Warner will have to sell Turner Broadcasting or AT&T will have to sell
DirecTV for the merger to continue, and TW says that it is not selling CNN
under any circumstances (although they might sell all or part of Turner
EXCEPT CNN).

Someone else has pointed out that the whole idea of Murdoch keeping the Fox
network is a little screwy, in that the only value for a commercial
broadcasting network in the U.S. these days is as a showcase for
programming owned by the parent company and with the entertainment
programming now owned by Disney, there seems to be little reason to keep
Fox. However, it could be that perhaps the Murdochs feel that the
broadcast network would be a showcase for their news and sports holdings,
which of course would be true for some of their holdings, but not others.
I can't really see Sean Hannity moving from FNC to the broadcast network,
for example, although I'm sure that Roger Ailes was frustrated that he
couldn't get anything other than "Fox News Sunday" on the broadcast network
(the one attempt to give Bill O'Reilly a prime time broadcast failed and
the attempts during his stint running the syndication division to get a Fox
News produced syndicated show on the air--"The Morning Show with Mike and
Juliet" and "Geraldo at Large"--were both failures). I started to say
"branded," but "The Morning Show" did try to hide its origination point, to
some success.
