I think Corden was pretty genuine. I know basically everyone revere's The
Beatles, but Macca is right up there. (I was once in a lift in my old job
when the doors opened. Who was waiting patiently for our single ropey lift
but Sir Paul. I quickly got out of it and mumbled something. I don't get
easily phased by famous people, but that brief moment has long stuck with
me)

I do genuinely think a lot of people have been moved by that video. The
breakfast show I was listening to this morning on BBC Radio Five Live was
full of it, with the presenter who'd seen it also moved. Us Brits are a
pretty cynical bunch. Maudlin is not something we do. That was genuine.

Of course it's not really relevant as to whether another presenter could
have done what Corden did. Like him or not, he came up with that format -
starting with a Comic Relief skit in the UK years ago - and whoever he has,
it's just fun.

Certainly the bit in the pub at the end feels a little constructed. I don't
know when they shot it, but word will have got around pretty fast, and
there were a lot of cameras about which the patrons can't have failed to
notice. But the reactions seemed real enough, and it would have been pretty
amazing to be in there.

There's not always a lot of sincerity in the world. But I think that was
sincere.
