I seem to recall that Wonderland focused on Sixkill rather than Hawk.
I also seem to recall a horror element towards the end of the novel that
seemed an unnecessary departure from the formula. (I listen to the books on
audio rather than read them, so I can't go back and check, but I believe
the same thing happened in the followup novel, "Cheap Shot.")
Still, I do think that Atkins captures Parker's style very well. How well
that will transfer to an adaptation, of course, is the big question.

Making Spenser an ex-con is an odd change; it almost seems as if they're
changing something just because they can. The first thing I thought of with
the ex-con angle was "The Rockford Files" - though the difference there is
that Rockford is a wrongly convicted (and pardoned) ex-con who has a P.I.
license. Not sure how Spenser would be able to interact with the police if
he's unlicensed. It's an unnecessary complication.

Agreed on Virgil Cole, though that first novel is the only one I know. (I
seem to recall that Diane Lane was supposed to play that part originally -
that would have given the movie a lot more gravity.)

I've read a few of the Sunny Randalls but none of the Jesse Stones.
