It's hard to read his missive without thinking that as a critic in his mid-50s, who specifically name-checked Patti Smith and the Kinks, the "music of the kids today" is not really to his taste, and isn't really *for* him. I too am not a fan of most musical acts on SNL, but I don't trouble myself because I've passed out of the target demo for most things. That said, in addition to David's list of Childish Gambino and Tribe Called Quest, I'd add Shawn Mendes and Katy Perry to the list of acts to have stuck in my mind.
