I have only one good eye and a self deprecating sense of humor, so students
in my classrooms heard a lot of one-eye jokes. Teaching at the film school,
I had a student who was a vet who lost an eye in combat, and I made the
same jokes about myself I did every term. Afterwards, he came up to me
laughing and showed me a page of his notes where he’d written what he
thought were my best one eye one liners that he planned to steal.
