As I never watched the Full House, I didn't feel the 'wow' factor of the
contrast between his TV and stand-up personas. But to have had as long a
career as he did I feel he had to have the goods, and be decent enough a person
to maintain his working relationships long past any TV fame would have subsided.
Whatever the reason he's gone, it's way too soon.

I think you’d have to look high and low to find another comic of his generation
as actively involved in charities than he was. Once I was older than eight or
nine, I was officially too old to appreciate either Full House or America’s
Funniest Videos, but I’m a fan of his stand-up. And some of his appearances
seated next to Johnny Carson are great late night TV. I hope the Carson estate
is as quick to post videos as our resident Letterman archivist.
