I liked The Power of the Dog - it has some very nuanced performances and
you're never entirely sure where it's going. Whether it's "Best Picture"
material or not, I don't know. Cumberbatch is excellent though. I confess
that I didn't get on with MacBeth. It was just too cold for my tastes and
not entirely joined up. Kathryn Hunter as the three witches was
extraordinary though.

Dune was very much not a streaming film this side of the pond - HBO Max
hasn't launched in the UK yet because of HBO's existing output deal with
Sky. It won't win, but I loved it.

The Lost Daughter is great, but I can't see Colman winning again. She's
just good in everything.

I've yet to see Belfast which a lot of smart money is on.

I can't help noticing Netflix is outspending just about everyone on the FYC
ads. I read print copies of The Guardian in the UK, and you'd think it was
Daily Variety for the number of FYC ads it contains. Apple is the other
massive spender.
