Several years ago, Dominoes Pizza had a marketing campaign announcing that they had a new recipe for their pizza sauce and dough, and acknowledged that their previous pizzas were all barely edible cardboard. It was an amazing admission, even though their improved pizzas were not much better and continue to send me straight to the toilet after eating a single slice. Still, I long for the day when CNN releases a statement admitting they have gone so far off the rails of broadcast journalism that they now do harm to the reputation of everyone associated with them, past or present.
I don’t believe for one minute that they will significantly reduce partisan reporting/punditry on the network… they’d have to lay off all of their prime time hosts and most of their regular contributors. As for “breaking news,” the network executives insist on treating every story as urgent and important because they believe that’s the only way to lure an audience. They might apply a different shade of lipstick to the pig, but it’ll continue to be a pig.
