Because it was written into the character early on that The Doctor can regenerate and turn into any human form, I applaud all the possible permutations that have (and will) occur. As for The Doctor’s earlier misogyny, that was (sadly) very much in keeping with that era of television. At least later series of DW featured companions who often did the rescuing as opposed to needing to be rescued.
