I hit the wall with the Inside Jeopardy podcast and behind-the-scenes
content. Michael Davies has been a producer for sports as well as game
shows and he’s made the decision to treat Jeopardy as a sport. We saw that
coming last year when they introduced advanced stats and posted new ones
after each show. It doesn’t draw me in but I don’t care as long as the
syndicated show stays the same.

Even though I’m a fan of an NFL team and I have had a season ticket for
over two decades, you can’t make me watch a network pregame show. And the
Jeopardy podcast has turned into the equivalent of a network pregame show.
There were recaps of last week’s shows, a discussion of what contestants
were wearing, and interviews with one champion, David the priest, and four
upcoming contenders in the tournament of champions. TMI for me. I get it
that the staff is interacting with super fans on Reddit and social media
and they find these fans have a deep connection to the show and everything
about it but I don’t. All I want to do is watch the show on TV every
weeknight.

During the summer reruns the podcast had some interesting interviews with
the writers, hosts, and Johnny Gilbert. There were announcements about the
upcoming season. Now the podcast has become something else. I will continue
to listen for another week or two to see if anything changes. After all
it’s still a new podcast and they might be finding their way.
