Sound like this would mark the first halfway decent permanent host of MTP this
century.

I recall that Welker did a better job holding interviewees' feet to the fire
when she filled in for Todd. Whether or not that continues, we shall see.

The job description entails not caring if a guest ever wants to return to the
show. When the series is at its best, it is holding media and politicians
accountable. Bob Schieffer usually did a good but not great job of it on Face
The Nation, but since he moved on none of the Sunday shows have been worth
watching, because all they care about is ensuring guests want to come back.

Long overdue. He is cheating when he says the criticism of his work is limited
to partisans, along the lines of “if both sides hate me I must be doing
something right.” Wrong. Criticism comes from anyone who values competent
interviewing and analysis. Dude was promoted to fast and his perceived
potential was never reached, but the powerful people who pushed for him could
not admit they were wrong.
Anyone would look good by comparison, but I like Welker as the replacement. She
is competent but not flashy. And hopefully will not try too hard.
