As far as I can tell, this is the first season that the NHL is doing this, so
I can understand a relative lack of buzz surrounding it.
For comparison, the NBA started it's own in-season tournament during the 23-24
season, held in November-December when NBA and NFL seasons overlap. They don't
have special teams for it, and some of the games also count for the regular
season, so it doesn't quite match up. But this tournament doesn't get a lot of
attention even while it's going on.

It’s not even on the level of World Juniors here. Hockey media are interested,
I’m not sure anybody else is.
That may pick up when the tournament actually starts, but other than the
Canada-USA game on the 15th (which is interesting only because of everything
else going on), but I doubt it.

The NHL has an upcoming in season tournament. When I watch games on ABC, Hulu,
or Max there’s constant promotion of the tournament. In every other part of my
world there is no mention of it, like it doesn’t even exist. Is this tournament
a big deal in Canadian sports media? I’m thinking of the world junior
tournament which gets a lot of attention in Canada and none in the USA.
