Looney Tunes are absolutely timeless. On rainy days, when I have to keep my students in the classroom for lunch, I can always put on something from the Warner animation library to pacify them. Tom and Jerry can sometimes work, too… maybe Droopy. Never anything Disney… not even Goofy. But always — always — Looney Tunes.
I converted a bunch of cartoons from my home VHS collection years ago (even have the original “last of the Dodos” cartoon, which in my opinion isn’t as racist as some claim, and I have the Bugs Bunny blackface cartoon, which is as racist as some claim). Also bought the collections on iTunes. As I age, I realize how much culture I gleaned from cartoons, from classical music to literary references to pop culture of their day. And when I didn’t get a reference, I’d ask everyone I knew to explain it to me. Kevin M.
