This upcoming Friday Morning (4-21) NASA is scheduled to launch CALIPSO
and CloudSat spacecrafts for NASA on a Boeing Delta II rocket (7420
configuration) from SLC-2W Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.

Launch is scheduled at 6:02 a.m. EDT.

CloudSat and CALIPSO mission will provide a new, 3-D perspective on
Earth's clouds and airborne particles called aerosols.

CloudSat's cloud-profiling radar is more than 1,000 times more sensitive
than typical weather radar. It can detect clouds and distinguish between
cloud particles and precipitation.

The Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations
(CALIPSO) polarization lidar instrument can detect aerosol particles and
can distinguish between aerosol and cloud particles.

Both satellites, once launched will be in a 438-mile circular,
sun-synchronous polar orbit, flying in formation 15 seconds apart as
members of NASA's "A-Train" constellation with three other Earth
Observing System satellites. The A-Train includes NASA's Aqua and Aura
satellites and France's PARASOL satellite.

CALIPSO satellite separation occurs approximately 62 minutes after
liftoff, and CloudSat will separate approximately 97 minutes after liftoff.

*This is the first launch of a Delta rocket since the labor strike
grounded the Delta fleet last fall.
