Boeing Delta II rocket (7925 configuration) is scheduled to launch Wednesday Evening (6-21) with payload MiTEx spacecraft for DARPA from pad 17A. Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida.
Launch is scheduled at 5:34 p.m. EDT. with a window extending to 9:34 p.m. EDT. Satellite separation is scheduled for 30 minutes after launch. MiTEx consisting of two micro satellites, both weighing 500 pounds each, one built by Orbital Sciences and the other by Lockheed Martin, is a experimental U.S. military project testing various technologies that are embedded in the two miniature satellites. After arriving in geostationary orbit, the two satellites will begin operations giving military planners the ability to test in geostationary orbit 22,300 miles above the equator instead of low earth orbit. Also a new upper stage kick motor developed by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, testing how it operates through the launch into orbit. Kick motor tests include: Platinum/rhodium bi-propellant attitude control thrusters High-performance coated columbium delta-V thruster Commercial off-the-shelf manual valve tested to aerospace standards Light-weight Inconel-718 composite overwrap pressure vessels Lightweight titanium propellant tanks with internal propellant management devices Triple junction solar cells Lithium-ion batteries A low-cost/high-performance star tracker Broadcast coverage: AMC-1 at 103.0°W, transponder 17C (4040 H) Broadcast starts approx. 5 p.m. EDT.
