This Tuesday evening (06-27) a Delta IV rocket on the inaugural launch
from the west coast, is scheduled to launch the NRO L-22 classified
National Reconnaissance Office spy satellite from SLC-6, Vandenberg Air
Force Base, California.

Launch attempt is scheduled sometime between 10 p.m. EDT. to 12 a.m.
EDT. (6-28).
(due to this being a military payload the exact launch time not known
until close to launch time)

Satellite separation is scheduled for 54 minutes after launch.

Space Launch Complex-6 (SLC-6) was originally constructed for the Air
Force's manned orbiting laboratory space station project in the 1960s,
then was rebuilt in the 1980s for west coast space shuttle launches to
be used by military. Both projects were canceled without even a liftoff
and the pad just sat idle since then with just a brief use in the 1990's
launching the Athena booster that had failures during the first couple
launches except the last one having success.
The pad only had one Space Shuttle (Enterprise) on it for fitting tests.

The Delta 4 was assembled on the pad in October of 2003 and has remained
on the pad since awaiting launch. Many delays has kept it grounded,
first with the payload being delayed, then there was concerns about fuel
sloshing in the second stage a day before the planed launch October 5th,
2005 and a workers strike halted the Delta program for a couple months.
