A Saginaw actuator is sealed, there is no grease zirc and even though you can WD-40 the outer tube, you cannot put grease on the inside. Besides it is not designed to be greased by the user. My Saginaw is still working after 24 years but I did have to replace the motor/gear box about 4-5 years ago because the brushes were completely worn down like Felix'. The Superjack's will last the least amount of time and only 5 years is not a surprising thing. There is nothing like a Saginaw or a brand like General Instruments that is actually made by Saginaw and private labeled. Saginaw is best, not only for durability, but also for accuracy. ----- Original Message ----- From: Len G. I have the feeling that he has never maintained the ones he has been using. I have a von wies? 24 inch that was already 7 or 8 years old when I got it and I have added about 10 years to it but I did always extend the arm and spray WD40 on it, its a waxed based lubricant so it leaves a coating on the arm, I also greased it on a regular basis though the last few years I haven't but it moves every time I ask it too. Maintenance is the best thing you can do to any arm, without it it will soon begin to protest and eventually tell you where to get off. You have to keep that screw in there clean and rust free and lubed up, if the rust builds up in there eventually it will mess up the acme nut, I think that is what it is called, most are plastic or teflon or something of the sort. Once it starts to go then you get play and that's it game over time to replace the unit or the nut if you can and if you are lucky you can find a bronze one.
