I agree with Mr. Miata. TVRO is much different now. You will
be able to watch your favorite networks with a 4DTV receiver and a
subscription to a service like NPS just like before. But in my opinion, the
excitement
is in the Free-To-Air viewing. There are literally hundreds of radio and music
channels
absolutely free, not to mention sports, Nascar backhauls and hi definition
concerts.
For me, half the fun is hunting for the backhauls with my DVB receiver that
scans for
new signals. I recommend a visit to this site:

There is also a forum on this site where Feed Hunters post all kinds of new
discoveries.

Good Luck!

Jeff

  http://forums.satforums.com/SatForumMaster/start/login.php?webtag=mpg is
probably the place to start for recommendations.

There is a tiny bit of subcarrier audio remaining on 3-4 sats, but virtually
everything analog, both audio and video, is already converted to digital.
IIRC, SCPC has been gone several years already. I quit looking for it long
ago. There's a lot of free audio up there, but all digital, mostly on
standard MPEG/DVB, some on 4DTV. http://www.lyngsat.com/ is the place to
start looking for what to look for once you have the equipment.
