The tighter the mesh the better. However a C band 18 foot dish, like I used to
have here in Central Mexico, even though it was terribly inefficient at Ku
frequencies brought in a much stronger signal than a 1.5 meter Ku dish. The
closer the mesh the more efficient, but a large C band dish even when
inefficient usually provides a very strong Ku signal, much stronger than the
typical smaller Ku band dish.

There are still some abandoned C band dishes in this area, & I have
toyed with asking for them. Most are perforated metal. I seem to recall
that if you can pass a pencil through the perforations, then it is not
usable for Ku. Is this true? Rhetorical question: How many more dishes
can I install before the YL kicks me out?
