You could take a look at ELDK (http://www.denx.de/wiki/DULG/ELDK) and U-Boot
(http://www.denx.de/wiki/U-Boot) as a bootloader to get started. You could
also take a look at BusyBox (http://busybox.net/) for tiny versions of Linux
utilities for embedded systems.
