... and just to add to what Girish said; I would recommend to go for an average project which is complete in every sense (planning to management and research to development) rather than targeting a "big big" project which focuses on only a few skills that you have learned during your engineering.

Personally I do not work in this domain but know a good number of PhD students working on "security issues in wireless sensor networks". If you plan to continue your career in research, I guess, this would be an interesting direction.
