Hi, If you really want to develop a social networking website use an existing Open source CMS like DRUPAL or JOOMLA. They already support rich social networking modules and features. You can customize modules as you like as per your functionality. Other wise it will take ages for you to start from scratch and develop a social networking website. Remember face book started out that way. Just the major problem with face book is it has very low quality photos. You might want to make your own face book like site for your collage with very high quality photos. Plus I personally Think there should be a school social networking site that allows people to keep track of there home work. I.E Teachers assign home work on the site and students can mark the work completed etc. While at the same time the teachers and students can share photos a forum like wall etc. In other word's design a social networking site that combines the school and assignment ( collaboration ) world with the social and communication world. btw. this would also be great to have with business as well.
