Hi Karnati:

Welcome to the Open Source technologies discussion list
hosted by TWINCLING Society.

Since you have a leased line,
you need to collate the following information.

1. Gateway ip address
(hint: it will usually end with .1, eg. 144.16.16.1)

2. subnet mask
(hint: it will usually look like 255.255.255.0)

3. Domain Name servers
(hint: they are used to provide IP address given a domain name
eg. input is telugu.ac.in and response is 144.16.54.123)

4. Allocated IP address pool for your Dept
    (hint: eg. 144.16.54.3 to 144.16.54.

Once you have this information, login in as root
and type system-config-network

You will see an entry for an interface (hint: eth0).
Edit the entry and type in the information as collated above by you.

Save the changes. The application will prompt to restart the service.
Click OK.
If all the entries are fine, then a ping from the xterm/console would
be successful.

Please try this and revert in case you face any issue.

Welcome once again !

thanks
Saifi.
