Is there are a way to create an index of mails ?

The time taken is quite high !
I use Pine and each of the folders has more than 20,000+ mails.
When I try to delete a bunch of mails, there is a momentary hold of couple of
seconds.

Hope that your home dir is not on an NFS mount.

thanks
Saifi.
