Hi all:

i installed custom compiled Gentoo 2007.0 Linux on a new 80GiB
IDE disk. (intel P4 2.66GHz , 1GB DDR2 RAM, Intel D101GGC board).

Now i tried copying 43GB of data from the old 80GiB IDE disk
to the new disk and it takes about 35 min. to copy 1 GiB.
This surely looks slow and strange !

Both are Seagate 80GiB IDE disks and worked fine with Ubuntu
6.06 which i was using until recently.

Any suggestions on how to speedup the copy process ?

Both the disks share the same IDE cable. Thought that
i should mention this, just in case that makes any difference.

Any body faced this issue before ? Any suggestions on this ?

thanks
Saifi.
