Job Summary We are looking for an outstanding, highly motivated individual with a "can-do" attitude and strong sense of responsibility to join the Solaris RPE (Revenue Product Engineering), Virtualization and Kernel team. You will be responsible for source code level analysis of customer reported software product defects (bugs), creation of a solution, unit testing of the solution, and integration of the solution back into the source code base. The candidate must posses excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, should be self motivated and self driven and have good communication skills. We fix escalated bugs, provide test binaries for customers, and put back fixes into the software source base. The watch word is "challenging" and frequently involves providing quality solution to mission critical systems for high profile customers. Situations may involve teaming with other Sun organizations to resolve difficult or complex issues. Job Description The successful candidate will be responsible for providing source code level sustaining and engineering support for Solaris Virtualization and Kernel technologies offerings from Sun running on SPARC, Intel and AMD platforms. Some of the typical job responsibilities include, the ability to analyze situations (particularly hypothetical or other abstract situations) at a level deeper than a superficial level, e.g. by drawing analogies, asking questions, formulating and then testing hypotheses, reasoning logically, finding ways to double-check one's conclusions, identifying any limitations to one's analysis, and so forth. It's not a skill that is restricted to scientific or mathematical situations - the same type of skills are also needed to a diagnose a mysterious computer bug. Skill sets - Must have ====================== - Solid understanding of UNIX fundamentals, scripting and shell programming techniques - Extensive experience in C programming to write software solutions and read and quickly understand large code bases. - Experience in using a debugger to analyze core files. - Very strong in software coding, troubleshooting, and debugging skills - Strong debugging expertise and ability to replicate / simulate customer problems in house to understand and then to either fix or provide work around. - Strong project management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills - Good written and oral communication skills Skill sets - Nice to have ========================= - Solid understanding of UNIX internals including scheduler, memory management, boot, interrupts, resource management, filesystems. - Experience in multi platform crash dump analysis - Knowledge of x86/x64 architecture - Knowledge of SPARC/x86 assembly - Knowledge of Virtualization technologies Marginal functions ================== Interact closely with internal teams including new product engineering, QA, release engineering, services, and Sun Professional Services to provide quality software product solutions to our end customers.
