Hi all: Those of the members using Ubuntu 8.04, please help out Mr. V C Mohan with the issues he is facing as mentioned below.
thanks Saifi. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: V.C.Mohan Subject: UBUNTU8.04 problems Hi Saifi, I installed UBUNTU 8.04 on my system AMD X2 5.0+, Asus M2A VM HDMI mother board, 2gb GSkill 800 RAM, 320 GB Seagate 7200 rpm SATA HDD, Linksys WMP54G wireless adapter PLEOMAX (samsung) keyboard and mouse. I had to make acpi off, FDD disable, HPET off before the OS could be successfully installed. I discovered that there are some issues both with my mainboard and wireless adapter cards with this UBUNTU 8.04 LTS. Occassionalyy I find everything freezes and I need to restart. I am trying to install a seismic data processing software package in UNIX but with instructions for installing on LINUX systems. x-windows-system-dev pkg I need to install for this job , do not load with synaptic manager stating : Depends: libdps-dev but it is not going to be installed Depends: libdps1-dbg but it is not going to be installed Depends: pm-dev but it is not going to be installed Depends: xlibmesa-gl-dbg but it is not going to be installed Depends: xlibmesa-glu-dbg but it is not going to be installed Depends: xlibosmesa4-dbg but it is not going to be installed Depends: xlibs-static-pic but it is not going to be installed I note that many are -dbg so really no need to have them for a debugged sourc code compilation. However there are a couple of them without -dbg. When I tried to separately preinstall these pkgs at some stage it stated that several installed pkgs need to be uninstalled. This list is long and many essential items were included. So I could not proceed. Need help suggestions. mohan
