Why don't you share your experience with GTKPond and GNUPod?

I have the 1GB model and I could browse it's files on my Linux desktop.
Take a closer look and you will find there are other files besides
your .mp3 files. The player uses these files for administering your
multimedia files. So whatever application you use to copy/remove files
to the iPod will have to update these files. iTunes does this for you.
BTW, Amarok/Rythmbox on your desktop also maintain similar files.

The following was posted on in another LUG. Hopefully it is of some
help.

Comparable Creative products use some M$ technology (MTP) which I have
yet to figure out on the Linux desktop.
