I haven't tried Intrepid Ibex (Ubuntu 8.10) but they say its focus is on 
wireless so you can try that. I think Alpha 5 is out and being worked 
on. It may not be very stable for ur purpose but worth a shot if u have 
the patience to try. If it is a 64 bit system use the 64 bit image - 32 
otherwise.
