Hi, I am interested in your 2nd problem. Can you tell us more about it? You said Ubuntu doesn't detect the HDD, then you say it suggested to perform a chkdsk from Windows. Can you post the error messages that Windows and Ubuntu gave?

I bought a USB casing and was using it as an USB HDD with my laptop. suddenly the power went off (the HDD has a power connection seperately) and from then on, UBUNTU is not able to detect that volume on which i was working on that time. it suggests to do a chkdsk in windows, but my windows xp sp2 is also not able to detect the volume showing that it is a dynamic volume. what to do? -- Anirban Ghatak [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
