Hi Anusha: Based on your inputs, here are the details to look for: 1. Assigned static IP address (for your system) 2. Default gateway 3. Subnet mask 4. DNS server 1, DNS server 2 5. MAC address details (your NIC card address). This is what vendors like Beam Cable, Hathway, perhaps even Reliance and iQara seem to provision for each customer. One can collect the details from the Windows side by, . start a command (cmd) shell . execute the command ipconfig/all Web based authentication is provided, as the user is part of the same subnet and through the interface one can provide details like - connected hours, renew, disconnected, access log, webmail, change of plan etc. When web based authentication is not provided, a dialer is usually provided. On the OpenSuSe Linux side, you need to work with either UI based tools . KNetwork manager . directly edit files. In the KNetwork manager, you can select your NIC card and specify the configuration settings that you collated from the windows side. Your network settings will get written to a bunch of files in /etc/sysconfig/network and the domain name entries will be seen in /etc/resolv.conf In OpenSuSe Linux, you will see the config file named as interface-name-mac-address ie. eth0-00:12:b5:ac:2a:2e Linux has a fantastic network stack and support for connecting/bridging over various transports. As long as your ISP Beam Cable is up, the connection should work just fine. Hope this discussion thread helps everybody connecting using Beam Cable on Linux. thanks Saifi.
