Hi all: Here is the mail Kartik is referring to. i'd earlier posted it to stars@
Today who is a newbie/n00b (insert your phrase here) is tomorrow's engineer. The same engineer goes on to become a decision maker ! If you tell RTFM/GOOG to some newbie, (s)he goes somewhere else and indeed reads up well. Twincling as a community is enriched by technology focussed individuals who participate in technology discussion and go on to work in technology startups that create awesome technology products. newbie's are the only people who are open to learning and don't come with pre-conceived notions. The so-called XPerienced people are all drenched in opinion, blogging and syntax sugar. The "meek" and the "geek" shall inherit the earth ! thanks Saifi. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Fri, 26 Jun 2009 09:36:45 +0530 (IST) From: Saifi Khan <[email protected]> Reply-To: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: [stars] newbie/n00b is an asset Hi all: Read through the IRC's and noticed that members are a bit concerned about asking seemingly naive/simple questions on [email protected] we can understand that, because it's a common experience to get flamed on the so called "pretending to be geek" discussion lists or told to "google it". Thats for lug-gards. As a Technology Foundation, we have single track focus on technology. Technology learning and Technology practising. At Twincling, the logic is RFTS and not RTFM ! (RFTS: Reach For The Sky). Please see this public posting http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/twincling/message/5440 and http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/twincling/message/5498 Well, here is something to know: At Twincling 1. NEWBIE is an asset we've tremendous respect for UPSTARTS. 2. "Not knowing" something is much better than having a pre-conceived notion. 3. there is something called as a "dumb answer" but no such thing applies for questions. 4. if you flame/look-down a newbie, you get removed. no questions asked/no questions answered. So, Enjoy the Twincling experience and RFTS ! thanks Saifi.
